About
A games told in the order it happens
Gwangju 2015 is an independent publication about university sport and the machinery of multi-sport games. It takes one edition of the Summer Universiade as its case and follows it from bid to afterlife.
Most coverage of a games arrives during the fortnight of competition and leaves with the broadcast trucks. That is the shortest and least consequential phase. A host city spends years bidding and building, and decades living with what it built. This site is organised around that asymmetry: five phases — Bid, Build, The Fortnight, Handback, Afterlife — and every piece filed in the phase where it belongs.
What we do not do
We do not invent figures. Where a number is not reliably available in the public record — operating subsidies for a municipal aquatics centre, for instance — we say so rather than supply one. We do not profile individual athletes. And we do not treat legacy as either a triumph or a scandal; it is a bet placed years before anyone can check the odds.
Independence
The publication is funded by the supporters listed on the homepage. They receive a mark on that page and nothing else: no review of copy, no say in what is covered, no placement inside articles.
